In his opening statement the Director of Don Bosco Fambul Rev Fr. Jorge Crisafulli first congratulated the President upon his election as President and his visit to Don Bosco Fambul during the Mudslide intervention. He furthered that he will be visiting the United Nations Head Quarters to deliver a statement on the situation of Trafficking and Child Prostitution in Sierra Leone and he wants to formally inform the president and to see how best the permanent representative of Sierra Leone to the United Nations can be part of the delegation.
Fr Jorge continued that Don Bosco is working with children and women in the country and are currently working with underage girls who are involve in prostitution and that he now has a program to empower 300 girls on a yearly basis with 150 girls for formal education and 150 girls for skills training. Fr Jorge also told the President about Don Bosco’s plan to construct houses for mudslide orphans and most vulnerable families of the mudslide survivors.
In his response the President stated that he is very much aware of the activities of Don Bosco and his office is always open for Don Bosco. He took the opportunity to inform the Don Bosco team that his wife Her Excellency Mrs. Fatima Bio did a research on girls in prostitution during which she was able to remove one girl from the streets and now the lady is staying at waterloo and therefore asked that we work with her in this area and to also contact her for the propose visit to the United Nations so that she can travel with the team to the United Nation. His Excellency the President intimated that he listened to news about Don Bosco on Radio Democracy 98.1 and was impressed with the testimony of Augusta who has been transformed to a productive citizen and asked about the new Don Bosco.
The Don Bosco team also informed the President about the fire disaster that brought the only Girls Shelter for physically and sexually abused girls in Sierra Leone to ashes. Fr Jorge told the President that the new Don Bosco has started constructing a therapy center and homes for children, girls and youths who are released from prison as a holding center
In his conclusion the President informs the team that he will personally visit the children of Don Bosco to give them a special message of hope.
