Project
Girl Shelter Plus
The Girl Shelter Plus project, an integral part of Don Bosco Fambul’s initiatives, was established in 2017 to address the critical needs of underage girls engaged in prostitution. Recognizing the alarming prevalence of vulnerable minor girls on the streets of Freetown, the Board of Trustees and Management of Don Bosco Fambul took proactive steps to intervene and provide a path to recovery for these girls.
The project operates a dedicated rehabilitation shelter staffed with compassionate social workers, skill teachers, and auxiliary staff. This multidisciplinary team collaborates to facilitate rehabilitation activities aimed at empowering and reintegrating the enrolled girls into society.
Key Achievements
- The project has successfully enrolled 716 girls, into the shelter and over 500 girls have been reunified with their families, fostering a supportive environment for their continued growth and development.
- We take pride in reintegrating approximately 350 girls into the formal education system, ensuring they have the chance to pursue academic excellence. Recognizing diverse talents and potential, we have enrolled 150 girls into various skills training programs, equipping them with valuable vocational skills for self-sufficiency.
- Our commitment extends beyond mere numbers, it’s about transforming lives and nurturing futures. The Girl Shelter Plus project stands as a beacon of hope, embodying the principles of rescue, rehabilitation, and empowerment for a resilient and empowered generation. Together, we create lasting impact, one girl at a time.
